No Ordinary Life

I should write a bit about why I chose to call my blog “No Ordinary Life.”  For some odd reason my mind offers up bits of songs when I am in certain moods.  For many years a common refrain was, “It’s a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack.  No hard feelings if I never come back.”  It would pop into my head when I was trying to understand some odd bit of human behavior.

For the past few years I have made choices to choose a more simple and satisfying life.  We’ve been working on our straw bale house, planting gardens, working from the spirit instead of the mind, and it puts me in a new place.  Now I’ve noticed that the song that often comes to mind when I am having one of those extraordinary moments of peace or enjoyment is, “This is no ordinary life . . . .  To be fair, I will promise to go and look up the lyrics and who wrote it so I can offer my thanks to the creator of that song.

So, no ordinary life.  I could ask for nothing better.

  1. “Master Jack” brought back memories. The words I remember (which may not be correct) were: “You taught me all I know and I’ll never look back,” and “…tie up all your problems and make them look neat; then to sell them to the people in the street.”

Those ideas summarized my thoughts about the teachings and some of the values of my first mentor. I learned what not to do & it helped me (actually gave me permission to) move on.

    Did you find the lyrics?

    • I decided to go find the lyrics after you asked. Here they are. Nice!

It’s a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
You taught me all I know and I’ll never look back
It’s a very strange world and I thank you, Master Jack

You took a colored ribbon from out of the sky
And taught me how to use it as the years went by
To tie up all your problems and make them look neat
And then to sell them to the people in the street

It’s a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
You taught me all I know and I’ll never look back
It’s a very strange world and I thank you, Master Jack

I saw right through the way you started teachin’ me now
So some day soon you could get to use me somehow
I thank you very much and though you’ve been very kind
But I’d better move along before you change my mind

It’s a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
You know how I feel as if I’ll never come back
It’s a very strange world and I thank you, Master Jack

You taught me all the things the way you’d like them to be
But I’d like to see if other people agree
It’s all very int’resting the way you disguise
But I’d like to see the world through my own eyes

It’s a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack
No hard feelin’s if I never come back
You’re a very strange man and I thank you, Master Jack

You’re a very strange man and I thank you, Master Jack
You’re a very strange man and I thank you, Master Jack

  2. Wow! That’s even more telling and powerful than I remembered. It turned out to be prophetic in a way I never would have expected.

    Thank you.
